Look in your local pet or feed stores for a high quality chinchilla food.  Find a good quality chinchilla pellet.  Read the labels to see if it has seeds, fruit or nuts in it.  If it does, then this is not the quality of food you are looking for.  These items don’t have all the nutrition your pet needs.  Try finding an Oxbow or Mazuri brand of food.  If you can’t find it in the pet stores, you may have to purchase your feed online.

Next, you’ll need hay for your chinchilla.  Look at the label on your bag of pellet food.  If the main ingredient is Timothy hay, then you need to buy Alfalfa hay.  If the main ingredient is Alfalfa hay, then you need to but Timothy hay.  There is no specific brand for hay, just whatever your local pet store carries.  Check the hay often to make sure it has not turned brown or has a musky odor.  If it does, then you need to change it immediately.

Last but not least, keep your pet supplied with fresh, clean water daily.
